WALDO VALENZUELA

BIO

Waldo Valenzuela is a Guitarist and Sound Engineer of Chilean origin. After getting his degree as a Sound Engineer in 1996 he has dedicated his life to play and record the electric and acoustic Spanish guitar in a variety of Musical styles. During that time, Waldo honed and perfected his skills on playing Blues, Jazz an Rock as well as traditional South American Music and Spanish guitar. After playing with a couple of the most famous bands in Chile ( Dekiruza, Gondwana to name a few) he moved to Los Angeles CA USA in 1998, where he has played/recorded with some of the best musicians in the Music Industry such a Justo Almario (Sax), Abraham Laboriel (Bass), Joe Heredia (Drums), Michael O'Neill (George Benson's guitar player), Christian Moraga (Multi Percussionist), Luis Eric Gonzales (Trumpet), Katisse buckingham (Flute, Sax), Cleto Escobedo (Sax, Jimmy Kimmel Band Leader), Robert Kyle (Flute, Sax), George Reyes (Voice, "Gipsy Kings") etc. He has also recorded with some of the best Producers in Los Angeles CA such a Multi Grammy Winner Cristian Robles, Multi Grammy Winner KC Porter and Latin Grammy Winner Arturo Medina to name a few.
The last 5 years Waldo joined the great Flamenco Guitar Player Alfredo Caceres with whom he make the Album Hispanica, what is an acoustic Album that describes their musical Journey as Guitarists and Composers, now as a duo.
Along with this Project Waldo keep playing in different venues and Festivals in California and the rest of the country. You can see him playing and singing from Brazilian Music to Jazz, Funk, R&B, Rock and also Rumba Flamenca, Boleros and Standards.
Parallel to his Musical Career, Waldo kept working as a Sound Engineer for Post Production, working as a Sound Mixer for TV Series and Movies in Burbank CA. He also was the Spanish Dubbing Musical Producer for some of the most relevant Hollywood 2000's Movies such as "Charlie and the chocolate Factory" (Tim Burton) "Corpse Bride" (Tim Burton) and "Happy Feet" to name a few. During this time Waldo also was the Singing Spanish Voice for the Character "Jemaine" from the HBO TV Series "Flight of the Conchords".
As a result of this continuous work as Engineer and Musician, Waldo took some of the work home and start Waldoval Studios, Producing, recording an mixing Independent Artists from around the World and also Mixing TV Series and Documentaries.

Hispanica

The project’s basic premise is to set an acoustic album that describes our musical journey as Guitarists and Composers, now as a duo. The main idea of this recording is to put together a set of nylon guitar styles that covers music from South America, Central America, Spain and Middle Eastern.
We have included some ethnic rhythms like “Chacarera” from Argentina/Chile, “Partido Alto” and “Samba do Rancho” from Brazil, “Bolero” and “Salsa” from Central America as well as “Rumba Flamenca” from Spain, “Gipsy Jazz” and some Middle Eastern rhythms, all fusioned with a twist of Jazz.

Big Brown Door

Big Brown Door is a musical project created in Los Angeles, CA which is born from the need to express the thoughts and music of Waldo Valenzuela (www.waldoval.com) and JB Boatman. Due to the diverse musical background between the two they find themselves diverging into the realm of Blues music which is influenced by Californian Rock as well as Pop and Soul. Welcome to this musical experience which fuses the best musicians that L.A. has to offer and has finally been brought to light this year, 2011.
